Citrus and Symmetry
Inspired by the structured aesthetics of commercial photography and the organic complexity of mandalas, Citrus & Symmetry explores the balance between design and nature. My goal was to create meticulously arranged compositions that still felt alive—bright images where citrus bursts with energy, and darker frames that draw the viewer inward with depth and intrigue.
To achieve this, I used two studio strobes with softboxes, producing soft, even lighting that enhanced the vibrancy and texture of the fruit. Composition played a critical role; some arrangements were photographed on a mirror to create striking symmetry and reflections, while others used a white background for flexible color adjustments in post-production. Maintaining a clean, fresh backdrop was a subtle challenge, requiring careful attention to detail throughout the shoot.
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these mandalas symbolize balance and transformation, reflecting how nature can be both chaotic and intentional. Drawing inspiration from Peter Belanger’s approach to refined, structured imagery, I applied similar principles while ensuring the organic essence remained intact. This project refined my lighting techniques and compositional instincts, resulting in mesmerizing images that fuse commercial precision with natural beauty.
